How my journey began
Dr. Sonya McCurdy is a licensed clinical social worker with 19 years of experience working with patients who have various mental health diagnoses. She has specialty experience with anxiety disorder, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and personality disorder. She uses a client-centered approach when working with clients, along with CBT, DBT, and MI techniques.
Before becoming a therapist, she was a young, enthusiastic social worker with a desire to save the world. She always loved working with children and had a long-time goal to work at Children’s Hospital. As Dr. McCurdy grew and matured in her career, she learned that working with children essentially meant primarily working with adults.
After five years of child welfare, Dr. McCurdy ventured out into working with adults primarily and found it more enjoyable in the medical field. Dr. McCurdy eventually went back to obtain her Master's degrees in Social Work, Public Health, and Divinity (in an 8-year time span) to fulfill her purpose of becoming a faith-based counselor. Dr. McCurdy recently completed her Doctorate in Ministry and developed workshops addressing mental health in the African-American church for her dissertation project. Dr. McCurdy’s journey was definitely God’s design, and she would love to share all of the intimate details with you on an individual basis.
